Revision Rhinoplasty
Revision rhinoplasty is one of the most difficult and unpredictable plastic surgery procedures performed. It requires a precise assessment of the deformity, a strong grasp of nasal support mechanisms plus soft tissue skin envelope and a realistic appraisal of the outcome expected acutely and over a long period of time. This fine balance is often achieved by retrospective analysis of post-rhinoplasty results in order to highlight repeated problems and improve upon them.
Revision rhinoplasty occurs when any further surgery is required on a nose to either repair poorly executed surgery, to correct some irregularity from a previous surgery or to hide scars or other surgical marks from a previous rhinoplasty. The important factors guiding revision rhinoplasty are:
-
How the nose looks now?
-
What is the problem/irregularity that needs to be addresses/repaired?
-
How much scarring is present from previous surgeries?
-
The mental state of the patient requesting the revisions, i.e., is he/she an unsatisfiable perfectionist, a surgery junkie, or psychologically unbalanced in any way that is causing an unjustifiable surgical request.
-
Is the problem correctable?
